smiley smiley

Paris is a dead end in August.  And we are the resident zombies roaming the streets for cheap thrills and a decent brioche.  The Puritan inside of me was happy to return from vacation to reality. If the early bird gets the worm, I would be an organized, self-promotion machine by the time la rentree rolls around in two weeks.  Unfortunately, dipping my toes into Breaking Bad and Pinterest has put a crashing hault to the other things on my professional development to-do list.

Luckily, I’ve been able to squeeze in a few faux ice cream tests between Walter White and the personification of my food geekery.  Mon mari has been taking the photos for me.  However, he could never be a food photographer because he is too emotionally attached to food.  “Are you sure you want to do that?” he interrogated as I scooped a butter ball of faux glace onto a perfectly edible apple tarte.  In food photography, most everything gets either contaminated or thrown out at the end of the day.  It is a pity, but I have come to the painful realization that as a food stylist, it is not my responsibility to turn 5 pounds of fake ice cream into a pound cake.  But rest assured, no Magnum bars were harmed in the making of this smiley.

Nevertheless, I need your help.  Do know of anything for a zombie or two to do in Paris this time of year?

That should be Maisons Lafitte! I hate auto – correct! Have a great time–there are SO many things to explore in the Paris area! And then, yes there is Brittany, Normandy, Etc, etc, etc! But if you only have a day you only need the RER! Get the Michelin Guide for the Environs of Paris. If you have a car, or rent one, you will never run out of fun, fascinating places most Americans never even imagine!

Vaughan, thanks for the excellent ideas! We snuck away to Brittany for a few days. But we will still need to occupy a week before la rentree.

    Thanks for reading!

My husband and I used to take the RER to any place we hadn’t been just to see what was there. One time we fell into the town that supplies all Paris with orchids and saw orchid varieties we had never heard of. Another had a wierd medical history museum. Madisons Lafitte has a fabulous chateau and St Germaine en Laye one of the most interesting museums in France. I used to love Paris in August. You can also do day trips by train or car. Try La Roche Guyon for a fascinating experience.

Ah, so that’s where I get it from? I am a proud member of that clan! I have mastered the 20 minute nap enough where I don’t even need to set my alarm.

Incredible! You weren’t in Paris by chance were you?

Get lost. I wandered outside today and ended up finding a lovely park that had strawberries ripe on the vine. Was tempted to pick one, but didn’t know the rules …

Surely there are some special exhibits in many of the museums which would pique your interest. It’s nice and cool in museums,too…..an added bonus during August!
